Everyone has a comfort zone. It’s easy to do what is comfortable and to not push ourselves to our highest potential. But if we want to reach our dreams and goals, we must leave our comfort zone. It takes courage to do that.
Courage is defined as the ability to do things which one finds frightening.
Once we have set a goal, we begin to realize that we will be doing new and unfamiliar things. We fear the new and unfamiliar because those two things will bring mistakes and setbacks. Most of us find mistakes and setbacks an unpleasant or frightening experience, and that is when our courage steps in to pursue the goal anyway.
What do we do when those unpleasant and frightening experiences happen? Well, we admit to ourselves where we went wrong, and why those things happened. Then, we focus on how to improve our next attempt at reaching our goal. We will keep using our courage to learn from our mistakes and continue on the journey to reaching our goals.
Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “I will try again tomorrow”. –Maryanne Radmacher
